Melissa Cicin-Sain
Engineer
MEng
Melissa joined Webb Yates’ Birmingham team in 2021 and has since worked on various new-build and refurbishment projects; from a state-of-the-art heritage scheme in the heart of York, to a new modern educational building at a historic school site. She has also advanced her knowledge of structural stone through the design of several stone staircases.
With experience designing with a variety of materials, Melissa is accustomed to working with complex parametric geometry and exposed structures that require great attention to detail. She is committed to developing efficient and sustainable structural schemes whilst meeting architectural and client goals.
Melissa graduated from The University of Sheffield with a Master’s in Architectural Engineering. The multidisciplinary nature of this degree incited an appreciation for architecture, building services and environmental design. Before joining us, Melissa undertook a summer placement at a London-based engineering consultant. She is currently working towards chartership with The Institution of Structural Engineers.
Her creative approach to problem solving has been recognised across the industry. She received a commendation from the IStructE in the ‘Rising Star’ category at the 2025 Midlands Group awards, and was also shortlisted for the ‘Rising Star – Technical Excellence’ award at the Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Awards the same year.
