Alex Lynes
Associate Director
CEng MEng MA (Hons) (Cantab) MIStructE
Alex joined Webb Yates Engineers after graduating in 2011. Through his career with us, he has led a wide range of notable and complex projects, including large schemes with substantial basements, lightweight steelwork structures, sustainable timber developments, and bespoke stone structures. He therefore has extensive knowledge working with a variety of structural materials, and a proven track record of working collaboratively to develop relevant solutions with the rest of the design team on projects that push the limits of structural engineering.
A strong advocate of sustainability in engineering, Alex is active in developing low-carbon tools and options on projects and leads our internal climate action taskforce, instrumental in the evolution and implementation of our sustainability targets. He is highly skilled with a range of CAD and analysis software, having utilised these tools to support form-finding, design, and analysis of some very complicated structures to create elegant, innovative and sustainable solutions.
Alex honed his creativity and problem-solving skills during his studies at the University of Cambridge, from where he graduated with a master’s in Structural Engineering. He regularly shares his knowledge through industry events and publications, and authored the chapter on stone in the RIBA publication ‘Materials: An Environmental Primer’. He has previously been awarded the IStructE Young Structural Engineering Professional Award, the IABSE Nethercot Prize, and the Guthrie Brown Award for his work on award winning projects.
