As a multidisciplinary practice comprising structural, civil and building services engineering services, we have a broad collective knowledge-base and are well positioned to tackle the climate emergency.
We pride ourselves in developing creative engineering solutions to complex problems and advocate for sustainable proposals wherever possible.
Sustainability is embedded into everything we do.
Alongside our engineering services, we can provide embodied and whole-life carbon analyses, circular economy guidance, dynamic energy simulation, retrofit appraisals, and post-occupancy monitoring. Actively addressing the climate emergency, we offer holistic, innovative, and sustainable solutions on each of our projects.
This commitment is upheld by our climate action taskforce — an open group of people of all levels and disciplines across the practice who make sure we play our part to bring the built environment in line with planetary limits.
Their work spans developing tools and guidance documents, researching low carbon solutions, accumulating whole life carbon data on our projects and outreach to the wider industry in the form of articles and collaboration.
Objectives
- Always offer a low-carbon option at scheme stage, even when not asked
- Challenge design changes that will significantly increase carbon emissions
- Address sustainability with a dedicated section in all design reports
- Calculate the carbon impact of design options on all projects
- Estimate the embodied/operational carbon total on all projects over 100m²
- Empower our team to advocate for sustainability
- Address sustainability with a dedicated section in all design reports
- Continue to share our knowledge and progress with the wider industry
Project Carbon
We aim to calculate the embodied and operational carbon on our projects to get an overall total that can be accurately compared to RIBA and LETI targets for the relevant type of building.
Our interactive Project Carbon Explorer showcases all the data that we have collected, providing insights into the trends across sectors, sizes and structural typologies.
Project Carbon ExplorerOur Footprint
We are a carbon neutral company and aim to become net zero by 2050.
We annually calculate the carbon footprint of our company operations, analysing all Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions to accurately understand our impact on the planet in terms of global warming potential.
We also have an ISO 14001 accredited Environmental Management System to hold us to account, continually review and improve our processes, and ensure we are compliant both in our operations and through our design work with legislation.

We pride ourselves on having a comprehensive knowledge of computational design and processes.
We aim to use our understanding of digital techniques within the design workflow to enhance our creative approach to design wherever appropriate.
Our internal digital group is formed of technical staff across the business and aims to continually develop our company-wide digital knowledge and skills. They also develop custom tools to suit the needs of the company or individual projects.
Cactus
Cactus is our bespoke parametric carbon calculator, developed by our internal digital group. The tool facilitates real-time modelling of buildings for instant feedback on the impacts to embodied carbon and cost with changes to common design parameters. In the interest of collaborative and sustainable design, we have made a free version publicly available below.
