14 Great James Street is the new office of Latis Homes – a new home builder focused on creating communities that are designed and built to promote sustainable living.
Having acquired the building, a townhouse typical to the St Giles area of London, Webb Yates Engineers were commissioned to undertake the structural design for the refurbishment and extension of the building.
The rear façade of the building was entirely demolished and replaced with a stud wall which forms a new closet wing. The stud wall carries loads down to two new transfer beams at first floor level, with the beams spanning from the existing party wall to the north and to a new block wall to the south.
The new floors to the rear are formed with timber beams which support a thin lightweight concrete slab.
