In 2019, a six-year masterplan was outlined for the expansion and consolidation of Harrow Arts Centre, with the long-term goal of allowing the popular cultural campus to become self-sufficient. The scheme won support from a cross-party group of councillors, and the first phase was completed in 2021.

Webb Yates provided structural and civil engineering services for the sensitive re-use project, which creates a new dance school, events space and artists’ studios.

Following detailed structural surveys of the outbuildings, our interventions included removing layers of harmful additions from previous works, as well as conserving and repairing where needed to maximise the re-use potential and restore the life of the structures. We also worked closely with the design team and client to develop a strategy for reducing carbon consumption across the campus, including ensuring the structural integrity for the installation of rooftop photovoltaics.
