The experience celebrated Mexican culture and gave visitors a compelling insight into the personal life of the iconic Mexican artist, showcasing her self-portraits alongside her belongings, including costumes, medical corsets, jewellery, accessories, photographs and letters.
Webb Yates developed the structural solutions for the immersive installation, which come to life through a series of corridors and galleries formed using lightweight timber interventions inside existing spaces within the Grade I listed museum building.
We also worked closely with the designers to realise a centrepiece for the exhibition; a mirrored podium inspired by the courtyard of the Blue House, Kahlo’s long-term Mexican home, which features the artist’s extraordinary wardrobe.
