The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) has revealed the shortlist of the Structural Awards 2019. We are thrilled to announce The Kantor Centre of Excellence for the Anna Freud Charity has been shortlisted in the ‘Sustainability’ category for projects ‘demonstrating outstanding commitment to social, economic and environmental impact in the structural design'.
The new build and refurbishment scheme was conceived as a composite timber and concrete structure. The design provides an integrated solution that utilises the lightweight and low carbon qualities of timber while taking advantage of the high compressive stiffness, fire resistance, strength and thermal mass of concrete.
The judges said; 'The adopted structural typologies make appropriate use of individual materials’ properties compositely to efficiently solve structural challenges, whilst maintaining a clear focus on carbon impact.
The winners will be announced on the 15th November at The Brewery in London.
