To shape a better city by promoting quality and inclusion in the built environment, The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has elected a new panel of specialists to ensure buildings and public spaces that benefit Londoners are at the forefront of the capital’s recovery from the pandemic. Webb Yates Engineers co-founder, Steve Webb has been appointed as one of the Mayor’s Design Advocates (MDAs), to support the Good Growth by Design programme, together with a strong list of experts providing design guidance to City Hall and London councils.

The refreshed panel will be asked to ensure that new buildings and public spaces will benefit all Londoners, with a focus on zero-carbon and sustainability, the safety of women and girls, and housing quality.

The new group will also support the mayor’s recently updated Good Growth by Design programme, which highlights the importance of an ‘inclusive recovery’ from the pandemic, such as how to rethink high streets and workspaces, and looks at the need to counter racism and other forms of prejudice in the built environment sector.

The Mayor’s Design Advocates also aim to challenge the under-representation of minority groups and women in the construction, architecture, and design industries.
