The museum is imagined as a sinuous path of stone that guides visitors through light, matter and climate. Formed from locally quarried basalt, the structure’s mass and geometry create shade, channel air, and moderate temperature without mechanical systems. The proposed design minimises intervention within the terrain, using the density of the stone and the earth’s thermal mass to stabilise internal conditions.
Scheduled to open in 2030, the new museum will form the centrepiece of the wider Baptism Development Zone and extend the visitor journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bethany Beyond the Jordan.
