It is Webb Yates’ adventurous spirit that drew him to us. Roberto sees an opportunity to push the boundaries of timber further, combining his knowledge with ours to advance our pioneering work in composite structures. He’s particularly looking forward to deepening his knowledge of stone and explore how it can be optimised to work with timber.
He joins us from Eurban, a specialist mass timber contractor, where he gained a deep understanding of execution and buildability through the delivery of over 40 projects across the education, residential, office and mixed-use sectors. This hands-on knowledge puts him in an excellent position to help us translate our ideas into practical, real-world solutions.
As Roberto puts it:
“We don’t have all the right solutions for timber yet, but with a bit of creativity and bravery, I believe we can get closer.”
This isn’t the first time our paths have crossed. Back in 2017, we collaborated with Roberto while at Eurban on York House, an award-winning refurbishment and extension in King’s Cross that transformed an underused 1980s office block into a vibrant, flexible workspace. It was an early example of how timber and bold thinking can reshape the built environment.
More recently, Roberto worked on the Stirling Prize-winning John Morden Centre by Mae Architects – a landmark CLT retirement community building that showcased the material.
With his arrival, we are reinforcing our commitment to advocating for low carbon and regenerative materials.
And we’re keen to talk to clients who want to explore what timber can really do.
