Features: Expo 2020 Dubai Sunshades

Expo 2022 Dubai Sunshades with Hopkins Architects has been shortlisted for the Engineering Prize at the World Architecture Festival 2022! 

A key feature of the sunshades is their ability to lighten the structure by circumventing wind load. A thin steel cable-net was suspended from a steel mast and connected tautly to the base. Aluminium shade panels, sized using grasshopper, were then hung in perfect alignment with this net, while rotating to allow wind through. The result is a self-weighted, beautiful rippling sculpture.
