The competition winning design refurbishes a key piece of green infrastructure.
The design encompasses two halves: a biodiverse forest garden and a new public square. Through the introduction of a comprehensive SuDS strategy with soft and hard landscaping, the new space will provide a robust and climate resilient space for the community.
Our civil engineers have been working alongside the design team and client on the sustainable design, which considers substantial material reuse and limited infrastructural works. The project achieves a balanced cut and fill utilising proposed mound features and handling surface water through passive above ground drainage features.
The team’s approach to the improvement of the park has been to learn from and work together with local residents. Community engagement has informed the design throughout the process, allowing it to develop into a ‘neighbourhood front garden’. The community will remain involved with the project through the delivery stage.
