Key takeaways from this year’s event ranged from the urgent need to embed whole-life carbon thinking into early design decisions, to the importance of improving procurement practices and integrating biodiversity goals alongside net zero targets. Discussions also highlighted the vital role of reuse and regeneration in reducing impact, alongside the pressing need for clear policy frameworks that support practical, on-the-ground change.
Alongside our delegates, our engineer Eleonora Regni joined The Stone Collective’s ‘Building a New Stone Age’ panel, discussing how stone might play a bigger role in the future of low-carbon construction, alongside Ben Ayling (Lundhs), Amin Taha (Groupwork), Pierre Bidaud (The Stonemasonry Company), and chaired by Vanessa Norwood.
Leveraging their knowledge from working on Finchley Road – the world’s first 10-storey, fully loadbearing stone building – the team discussed the challenges and opportunities of using structural stone in a contemporary context, from fire performance to embodied carbon and supply chains.
Thanks to everyone who made the event what it was, and to the organisers for bringing such a valuable programme to life.
