The Kantor Centre of Excellence for the Anna Freud charity has been shortlisted in two categories in the Structural Timber Awards- ‘Education Project of the Year’ and ‘Engineer of the Year’.

At WYE, we favour timber over steel or concrete for its reduced embodied energy and valuable carbon sequestration. We are proud to have an impressive portfolio of timber buildings and continuously work to test new technologies and stay at the forefront of timber engineering.

For the new Centre of Excellence for the Anna Freud Charity, we collaborated with the architect and building services engineer to design a composite timber and concrete structure. The new build and refurbishment scheme provides an integrated solution that utilises the lightweight and low carbon qualities of timber while taking advantage of the high compressive stiffness, fire resistance, strength and thermal mass of concrete. The use of timber has significantly contributed to the artistry of the structural solution, the aesthetics and ergonomics of the final space and the low carbon efficiency of the scheme.
