The World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards has announced its 2022 shortlist, showing the most bold, beautiful and innovative projects from around the world.

We are delighted that Expo 2020 Thematic Districts, Dubai, by Hopkins Architects, have been shortlisted in the Civic and community - Completed Buildings category at the World Architecture Festival Awards.

The shading structures are one of the most striking elements of the Expo site which ran from October 2021 to March 2022. Expo 2020 Dubai Sunshades comprises 50 shading structures, slender at their base and rising to 16 metres in height and width to create an interconnected canopy. The shading structures line the main streets of the Expo for three districts and provide shade during the day, light at night and form a sculptural feature for the Expo and beyond.

We are very proud that Dubai Sunshades have been recognised for its innovative design, a scheme of which our team have supported the architect with our structural engineering expertise.

The festival is one of the most prestigious architectural events in the world and is judged by the biggest names in the industry. Congratulations to all nominated at this year’s awards. The winners will be announced at the live festival event from 30 November to 2 December this year, under the theme of "Together".
